When we entered our honeymoon villa, Moonswept, we were blown away by the beauty. This two bedroom, two bath luxurious home is situated on the top of a hill in the Calabash Boom area of St. John. Moonswept is on a single level, with each bedroom on either end, and the most amazing wall of windows running the length of the opposite wall. The view overlooks the bay below, over the East End and across to the island of Tortola and Drake's Passage. It was truly an amazing view and it was hard to tear ourselves away. Moonswept is located on the Coral Bay side of the island. It's in a peaceful secluded part of St John but it is a small island so everything is accessible. The rental agency requires that you rent a 4-wheel drive if you book this home as you will never get there in a standard vehicle. We woke early as the glorious sunrise at 5:30 am was hard to ignore. The panoramic view provided a great way to spend time together- watching the sun rise and seeing the (almost daily) small squalls build and move in our direction, then parting as the sun washed over us once more. The wind was fierce at times, and gentle at others, but always a part of the experience, keeping it cooler and free from most bugs. The beds were large and well appointed- the rooms had high ceilings and exposed rafters and the kitchen was well stocked with all that we needed for our 5 day stay. We purchased our groceries in St Thomas and stopped by the local market for a few additional items allowing us to make most meals "at home" and save quite a lot of money. The patio and pool area were well used at all times of the day. The patio has a grill as well as a covered dining area. With all of this to come home to each night, it was preferable to dine here rather than drive down the mountain and in to town. We were on our honeymoon after all! All of this does not come cheap, but the rate at Moonswept was comparable to other villas with these amenties. Overall a great value for our stay. We were within an easy and enjoyable drive to all of the beaches and did not miss the crowds of Cruz Bay. Many travelers love to cross places off their list and move on to the next experience. My husband and I, however, are looking forward to returning to Moonswept again as there is no need to look further for our little haven in paradise!
The description and photos can not do justice to the beautiful relaxing home. As soon as you walk into this gorgeous villa you feel welcomed and right at home. Incredibly well stocked kitchen and house. Just about everything you can think of is provided from towels, to beach chairs and coolers. Kitchen is amazingly stocked as well. We particularly enjoyed the sound systems provided that were all ipod friendly, 1 in living room and 1 in each bedroom. TV's looked great although we didn't have the urge to turn them on at all, too much else to do from board games to star gazing. We found the property and house to be very clean. The caretaker, all around host Dave D. provided a fantastic welcome at the dock after a long day of travel and made the last leg of our journey seamless. THANKS DAVE! You are within a 10 to 30 minute drive to some fantastic beaches. We found Francis Bay to be our favorite, especially for lounging, sunning and jumping in the water for a cool down. Very good snorkeling at Maho Bay without having to venture too far out. In fact, rays and tarpons were readily visible from standing on the shore. Trunk Bay, although beautiful is really not necessary. You can find everything you could desire at other beaches with a lot less people. Don't miss Salt Pond Beach and Little Lameshur, worth the bouncy drive to the end of the road. Restaurants selection within a ten minute drive from house is ample and varied. Our favs were Miss Lucies, [don't miss the Sun. jazz brunch] probably our best dinner was at this welcoming establishment with unbelievable views. Other good choices for a nice dinner are Aqua Bistro and Ship Wreck. For burgers and drinks and a taste of "local flavor stop at Skinny Legs. Food was decent as were the drinks. Not "fine dining" but excellent for what they do. For a half or full day sail out of Coral Bay stop by Crabbys Shack and schedule a sail with Rick and Robin on their beautiful 40 foot boat "Long Distance". We would definitely recommend this beautiful property to others. The only caveat I can even think of is that you have to get used to a long, bumpy, twisty road up to the house but for us it was no problem. Its probably 6 or 8 minutes each way until you get to the main road. If you can manage to stay here you will NOT be disappointed. A GREAT VACATION!!!
This home was in perfect condition, even more beautiful than the photos suggest, the view was spectacular, the house manager friendly, professional, extremely helpful and full of great suggestions for activities and outfits to make it happen, while also respecting our privacy. We enjoyed being on this quieter side of St. John, and loved Great Salt Bay for snorkeling, Ram's Head hiking, Skinnylegs and Miss Lucy's for casual but wonderful eats and drinks. A great escape. We will be back.
Wonderful property with a view that is captivating. Moonswept is a well maintained and lovely home that was accurately described in the website. The photographs did not do the villa justice in regards to the view. The amenities were adequate and the kitchen was well stocked with necessary tools and gadgets for all type's of chef's. Moonswept was very private, other then the occasional visit from the donkey and the pool and hot tub was situated with views and privacy in mind. The plantings around the pool area afforded additional privacy from the road and lighting at night was an added treat. Moonswept was nicely appointed but not fussy or overdone. The property manager was not intrusive but did give us helpful hints and suggestions. I would highly recommend Moonswept Villa.
Moonswept Villa is a beautiful property. The interior is so comfortable and spacious and filled with Caribbean breezes. The outside terrace with pool, hot tub & dining area, is beautifully designed and maintained. At 800' above the bay the views both inside and out are stunning, with beautiful sunrises and a few afternoon rainbows. And it's all really private. Everything you need is there. You could move in for a week and never leave but then you would miss some of the really great restaurants in the Coral Bay area. The caretaker for the property lives on the lower level and is there when you need him and completely respectful of your privacy when you don't. He's also a great resource for all of your island needs, including restaurant recommendations. It was great to have him there so close. We had a fantastic week at Moonswept and St. John and are already planning our next trip back!
